BAGGAGE INFORMATION

In addition to the granted baggage allowances, car seats and strollers are carried free of charge when traveling with a child or infant.

Baggage over 23 kg and not exceeding 32 kg and/or exceeding the total linear dimensions (length + width + height) of 158 cm (62″) will be subject to excess/overweight charges.

Items weighing more than 32 kg will not be accepted as checked baggage and will need to be repacked.

Medical or survival equipment and a maximum of two wheelchairs are transported free of charge if you are accompanied by someone who needs it.

Separately packed sports equipment is counted as one piece of baggage. For example, a bike with a separately packaged wheel is considered one piece.

Pets are not permitted on Air New Zealand aircraft.

If passengers have a domestic flight included in their international ticket, the international checked baggage allowance applies.

EXCESS BAGGAGE
Excess baggage charges will apply if the weight of baggage carried exceeds that permitted by Air New Zealand.
For excess baggage prepaid in the agency or on the internet before departure, the price of the 1st additional bag is of XPF5,000 and the2nd of XPF7,500.
It is no longer possible to add more than 2 additional pieces of baggage.

Children

Unaccompanied minors are only eligible on pure Air New Zealand flights and not on codeshares (with Aircalin for example).

CRADLE

On international flights, cradles can be fitted to Air New Zealand Boeing 747, 777 and 767 aircraft. There are currently no cradle options on board B737 and A320 aircraft. These cradles are designed for babies up to 8 months and of medium size. Cribs include sheets, pillows and blankets.

The number of crib locations on each aircraft is limited. It is therefore important to request a seat with a cradle when making your reservation. Please note that as cradle seats are designed for infants up to 8 months (and weighing a maximum of 11.8 kg), reserving cradle seats is only possible for children under this age and in the limited quantities available . If you are traveling with a child between the ages of 8 and 15 months (and weighing a maximum of 11.8 kg), you may be assigned a bassinet seat if there is one available when you check in for the day of your trip.
GROUPS OF CHILDREN

School trips, sports tournaments or family reunions are just some of the occasions when groups of children travel with Air New Zealand. Whatever the reason for the trip and whatever the size of the group, such a trip is always a real adventure for children. However, to ensure their safety and well-being, it is important that they have appropriate adult supervision.

To do this, we recommend the supervision of at least one adult for every five children.

TRAVELING WITH A CHILD WHO IS NOT DO NOT HIS

Border officials advise people traveling with a child under 18 who is not their own to bring a letter of consent signed by a parent or legal guardian of the child and a copy of the document of birth of the child, to prove that the travelers have the authorization of the parent(s) or legal guardian(s) absent.

CHILDREN’S BOXES

Traveling with children is a wonderful experience. However, we know how tiring it can be for children and parents alike. This is why we have developed a Kids Pack, which offers a whole range of activities for our young passengers.

These specially designed children’s packs include typical New Zealand characters, which will help children discover New Zealand in a playful way. The colored bags contain a whole series of objects: an activity book, colored pencils, a magic screen and stickers.

SAFETY AND WELL-BEING

Your children’s safety is our number one priority when traveling with us. It is therefore important that you follow all instructions from your cabin crew.

Please also note that international safety and health regulations do not allow cabin crew to feed children, administer medication, accompany them to the toilet, change nappies or let children run around in the tunes. ‘plane.

If the flight personnel are not authorized to administer medication, they do however have eucalyptus sachets for children who have earaches on takeoff or landing. To help your child better withstand take-off and landing, we suggest having a bottle that you can give your baby so that their ears get used to the change in air pressure more easily. It seems that children are more sensitive than adults to changes in air pressure, especially if they have a cold or have problems with their tonsils or adenoids. If your child has such problems, it is advisable to consult a doctor before the trip.

STROLLERS

In addition to the granted baggage allowance, car seats and strollers are carried free of charge when traveling with a child or infant. For safety reasons, pushchairs must be placed in the aircraft’s overhead bins. If your stroller is too large to fit in an overhead bin, it will need to be checked in with your other baggage. If the flight you are taking is full, airport staff may ask you to check your stroller in the hold.

In the Boeing 747, 777, 767 and 737 and in the Airbus A320, buggies with a fully collapsible frame and seat can be placed in the overhead baggage compartments. Unfortunately, these strollers cannot be accepted in the cabin on the Airbus A320. Some types of strollers are too bulky to fit in luggage lockers, including 3-wheel jogger models and models that don’t fold inward.

INTERNATIONAL

You must check in no later than 90 minutes before take-off time. Due to heightened security procedures on all flights to and from the United States, check-in will be open up to a maximum of 2 hours prior to departure.

DOMESTIC

Recent terminal developments in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch will make your transfers easier. These new terminals are equipped with automatic check-in counters.

For domestic flights, you must check in at least 60 minutes before departure time.

Travel assistance

Prostheses

As space in the cabin is limited, we may ask you to take only one prosthesis in hand luggage. The other prostheses must be registered. Note that longer prostheses (legs for above-knee amputees, for example) may not always fit in the aircraft cabin. Be sure to protect the longer dentures well in case they need to be saved.

Air safety

For security reasons, you may need to present a medical certificate from your doctor or specialist for your prosthesis. We advise you to have a certificate with you in case a member of the security staff asks for it.

Security wizard

Here are some examples of such cases:

Domestic and international flights except flights from/to/via the United States

– When traveling on a stretcher.

– If you cannot communicate with our cabin crew.

– If you suffer from a severe disability and you cannot take part in your evacuation in the event of an emergency.

– If you cannot take care of your personal needs (going to the toilet, eating or taking your medication alone).

– If the number of disabled passengers on the plane is exceptionally high.

Responsibilities of Security Assistants

The customer is responsible for organizing the travel of his companion or assistant. Your assistant must be over 16 and have the physical and mental capacity to help you. Your assistant may need to help you into and out of your seat. This person must therefore have the physical strength and experience necessary to do so.

Your assistant may also need to help you with food, give you your medication, help you with the toilet and clear customs and immigration on international flights. For safety reasons, the assistant and the passenger must be seated in the same cabin.

Flights from/to/via the United States

We will ask you to travel with a security assistant in the following cases:

– You are traveling on a stretcher or with a child in an incubator.

– You cannot understand or respond adequately to safety instructions given by company personnel.

– You cannot communicate with our cabin crew.

– You are physically unable to take part in your evacuation from the aircraft.

Your assistant must be over 16 and have the physical and mental capacity to help you. Your assistant may need to help you into and out of your seat. This person must therefore have the physical strength and experience necessary to do so.

For safety reasons, the assistant and the passenger must be seated in the same cabin.

Wheelchair

Our staff are used to assisting customers in wheelchairs. So you can travel with peace of mind, we will take good care of you.

The following information will help you prepare for your trip:

Before your trip

At Air New Zealand we use three SSR (Special Service Request) codes which are listed in your booking. All airlines use these codes to identify the level of assistance you need (if at all). Our staff will ask you if you can move from your wheelchair to the plane seat on your own and will indicate in your reservation the code that best suits your needs.

If you have a correspondence with another company during your trip, it would be advisable for you to contact the company in question to find out what services it offers and what information you must provide to it so that it can meet your needs. .

At the airport

Registration

You must present yourself for check-in at least one hour before departure. This allows us to take care of your particular needs before those of other customers. Do not check in at an automatic kiosk at the airport, as it is important that we speak with you and confirm the exact level of assistance you require.

Please let the agent present at check-in know if you need a lift or transfer chair. For the lifting device, please indicate if you prefer to have a male or female staff help you place the lifting strap.

If you wish, your wheelchair can be registered. We will provide you with an airport chair and a member of our staff will show you to your seat on the plane. You can also choose to use your wheelchair all the way to the aircraft door. Your wheelchair will be tagged at check-in and once you arrive at the aircraft door, it will be taken away to be placed in the hold.

your need

Personal wheelchair and another wheelchair (for example, for showering or playing sports) will be transported in the hold free of charge. Additional charges will apply for any additional equipment. Make sure your chairs are labeled with your name and address (we can help if needed). If a sports chair can be dismantled into two or three parts, it will only count as one item of baggage.

Most chairs are designed to meet specific personal needs. It will therefore be easier for us if you bring instructions for your wheelchair so that we can pack it, secure it and reassemble it as carefully and as quickly as possible.

On the following instructions should appear:

– How to fold the backrest.

– How to disconnect the battery (if applicable).

– How to release the gears to release the wheels.

– How to remove the control system or lever.

Carriage of battery-operated seats on our flights:

– Not all battery-powered chairs are foldable, so we can’t always fit them into some smaller planes. To find out if your wheelchair can be transported, please see the aircraft information below or contact us before confirming your reservation.

– Safety regulations require that sealed battery terminals be protected against short circuits and that the batteries be securely attached to the chair or mobility device. The company must also ensure that the wheelchair does not start to operate unexpectedly in the aircraft during the flight.

– If the wheelchair or mobility aid has a sealed battery, it should be disconnected and the terminals should be protected from short circuits. The wheelchair or mobility aid must be kept in an upright position. If this is not possible, the battery should be removed from the wheelchair or mobility device and transported in approved packaging.

– Please let check-in staff know the battery type of your chair or mobility aid.

– As far as possible and to prevent the control system or lever from being damaged, we recommend that you remove it from your wheelchair and keep it with you.

– The following dimensions of aircraft doors used on domestic flights will let you know if your battery chair can pass through, especially if the backrest is not foldable.

Embarkation and disembarkation

When a boarding bridge is available, you will be able to remain in your seat until the aircraft door. During check-in, we may ask you to show up for boarding before normal time. By boarding earlier, we have more time to make a private transfer and to transport the wheelchair in the hold of the plane. If you wish to board earlier, please notify one of our agents located at the boarding gate.

On the plane, you have three options:

1. sit alone in the seat of the plane,

2. get help from your guide,

3. or our staff will use the Eagle lifting device to complete the transfer (only in New Zealand: at Auckland, Wellington, Christchurch and Dunedin airports).

If needed, a lifting strap (used with the Eagle lifting device) will be placed privately in the boarding bridge. To do this, we may ask a man or woman from the staff to help you. It is advisable to wear shorts or long pants for more comfort and privacy.

Please note: the Eagle lifting device is not available during the flight. This equipment remains on the ground at New Zealand airports.

Upon arrival, a member of our staff will pick you up with an airport wheelchair or with your wheelchair depending on what you have requested. If necessary, our staff will help you clear customs and immigration and help you collect your luggage at arrivals.

On board the plane

Armchair suitable for airplanes

All Air New Zealand international aircraft (Boeing 777, 747, 767,737 and Airbus A320) have an aircraft seat (specifically designed to fit through narrow aircraft aisles). This chair is used to guide you to your seat and can be used to access the toilets on board the aircraft during the flight.

Due to lack of space, this type of seat is not available on our domestic flights. Airports are equipped with these types of wheelchairs to drive you to and from your seat. Wheelchairs are also used at airports for boarding and disembarking. You remain in your seat on short domestic flights.

Harness for quadriplegic

All Air New Zealand aircraft are equipped with a special chest harness, which provides additional support and allows you to be held in the aircraft seat better. Ask for it when you make your reservation and also on board the plane. In accordance with FAA regulations, passengers requesting this type of harness cannot be seated in Business Premier class. Indeed, the harness prevents the proper functioning of the seat airbag.

Help on board

Our cabin crew will do their best to make your trip as comfortable as possible. Our cabin crew can provide different levels of assistance if you cannot move from your wheelchair to your seat on your own.

For international flights other than those to/from the United States

If you usually require a mechanical lift or a manual lift requiring the assistance of two people to move from the seat to the wheelchair and vice versa, you will need to travel with an attendant to help you during your flight. The attendant must be able to lift you. Our staff can only help lift the legs.

For flights from/to the United States

United States Department of Transportation law requires Air New Zealand personnel to assist you in transferring from your wheelchair to your seat and back if necessary. Our staff uses several specialized techniques and equipment to do this. We will be able to take you to the toilets with the seat of the plane, but our staff will not be able to help you inside the toilets.

You will need to be accompanied by a safety assistant if you are physically unable to assist in your evacuation from the aircraft in the event of an emergency.

For flights within New Zealand

If you cannot move from your chair to the seat on your own or if you need more than one person to do so, the Eagle lifter is available on domestic flights on Boeing 737-300 and Airbus A320 in Auckland, Wellington , Christchurch and Dunedin. If you prefer, an attendant of your choice can help you get into and out of the aircraft seat during boarding and disembarking. This person does not have to travel with you, but they must be able to lift you. Our staff can only help lift the legs.

The elderly

A wheelchair is available if needed between the check-in counter and the aircraft door. This service is particularly useful at international airports where you may have to travel a long distance from the check-in counter to the departure lounge. Ask for this service at the time of your reservation to ensure the availability of a wheelchair during your trip. During periods of great departures, wheelchairs are in high demand. They are limited in number, so you may have to wait to get yours.

Our staff will also be happy to provide further assistance upon arrival. Do not hesitate to explain your needs at check-in or to our flight attendants so that we can facilitate your trip.

Pregnant women

A medical certificate is mandatory in the following cases:

– Your pregnancy is at risk (for example, you are expecting twins) or

– You are traveling beyond the 36th week of pregnancy on a flight of more than five hours.

Advice

If you are in late pregnancy and traveling internationally with layovers during your trip, consider that you could give birth prematurely during a layover. We have had several such cases. These situations always cause a lot of anguish for the mother (and often unexpected costs). We therefore recommend that you travel well before the expected term of your pregnancy. We also recommend that you drink plenty of water on board (we may run out of bottles, so it’s best to buy water after you’ve cleared security. Please check liquid regulations.) Walk the furthest often possible and also remember to elevate your legs.
