General informations
Air Vanuatu was created in December 1987 and operated its first flights with the Boeing 737-200 to Sydney, then to Brisbane and Melbourne. In 1989, Air Vanuatu acquired its first aircraft, a 727-200 named “Spirit of Vanuatu”.
New Zealand was added to the destinations with a weekly flight to Auckland and several codeshare flights operated with Salomon Airlines to Fiji and Aircalin to Noumea.
Air Vanuatu has played a major role in the tourism and economic development of Vanuatu over the past two decades. In 2004, the Government granted Air Vanuatu to take over control of the domestic company Vanair.
Air Vanuatu operates its international flights to Australia, New Zealand and Vanuatu with a Boeing 737-800.
The ATR-72 is used for regional flights to Espiritu Santo Island and Tanna, and to NOUMEA

Children
Babies
Children pay 10% of the adult fare but are not allocated seats.
Any child under the age of 2 must be accompanied by an adult.
Infants must have a passport for all travel.
Due to limited space, Air Vanuatu cannot provide a bassinet.
Strollers are not allowed in the cabin and must be presented at check-in and counted as part of the baby’s 10 kg baggage.
Children
Unaccompanied minors:
Air Vanuatu can provide an assistance service for children aged 5 to 11 traveling alone. Booking for unaccompanied minors cannot be done online, but directly with a travel agent.
In order to ensure maximum supervision, we will ask you to provide us with the contact details of the people in charge of bringing the child to the airport, and of the people in charge of picking him up on arrival. Your travel agent will tell you how to provide us with their information.
Depending on availability, Air Vanuatu can arrange personalized support for an unaccompanied minor upon request from parents/guardians.
The request must be made when booking. Paid service.
Children traveling with a different surname:
Customs and immigration services advise passengers traveling with a child under the age of 18 and with a different surname, to have a letter of attestation signed by both parents as well as a copy of the child’s birth certificate. the child in order to prove that you have the authorization to travel with the child, in the absence of his parents.
Registration
International
We recommend that travelers present themselves at the check-in counter at least 2 hours before take-off time. This is to allow you sufficient time to access check-in and security screening, and to avoid flight delays.
Domestic
All domestic counters open 90 minutes and close 20 minutes before departure time.
Make sure you have enough change to cover the provincial departure tax.

Travel assistance
Wheelchair
If you need a wheelchair on your trip, please let your travel agent know before departure. Passengers are not permitted to carry their own wheelchair in the cabin. Air Vanuatu will provide assistance to passengers with reduced mobility and accompaniment to the seat on the aircraft.
Canes, crutches
For security reasons, canes and non-folding crutches cannot be taken into the cabin. In order to provide the best possible assistance, passengers are requested to check-in in advance.
Pregnant women
It is possible to travel up to and including the 35th week of pregnancy. A medical certificate must be signed.

Air Vanuatu offers Qantas Card members the opportunity to earn Frequent Flyer points on every Air Vanuatu flight.
