Solomon airlines

General informations

The history of Solomon Airlines dates back to 1962 when Mr. Laurie founded a small charter company called Megapode Airways. Therefore, uThe name change to Solomon Islands Airways came about when Mac Air of Papua New Guinea bought the company in 1968, becoming the world’s smallest airline, serving the Solomon Islands and Papua New Guinea. In 1976, the company operated 9 aircraft on its internal services. The Solomon Islands government purchased 49% of the shares of the company in 1979 and with it the right to purchase the remaining 51% at the end of the following 5 years. With a modest investment, the government introduced its first 2 aircraft and officially changed its name to ‘Solomon Airlines Limited’. In 1989, Solomon Airlines formed a joint venture with Qantas and Air Pacific to meet international market demand.

When civil unrest broke out in 1999, the United Nations imposed severe sanctions on the involvement of the company’s partners and Solomon Airlines faced many changes in flight operations. For many years Solomon Airlines has endured the effects of civil unrest and coped remarkably well with the recent stiff competition. Today, the company remains the market leader in the Solomon Islands in the domestic and international aviation sectors. In December 2008, the government approved a comprehensive restructuring and recovery plan for Solomon Airlines. One progress over the past 2 years indicated that the airline is well on its way with the recovery process. Also, with a total workforce of 179 employees based in Honiara (Solomon Islands), this group engages in the following core business:

→ Regular national and international air transport.

→ National and international regular freight transport.

→ Charter of national and international operations.

Fly Solomon operates its international flights to Australia, Fiji, Vanuatu and Papua New Guinea with a one Airbus A320.

While we’ll do our best to make sure your child’s travel experience is enjoyable, there are a few additional things you can do to make it easier:

– Make sure he knows who is meeting him at the finish. Explain to him the importance of his passport and tickets and make sure he can recognize both.

– For more information or to make arrangements for an unaccompanied minor, please contact your authorized travel agency.
