Lufthansa

General informations

Lufthansa is a German airline created in the 1920s through the merger of two airlines. It develops very quickly during the Second World War but will suffer from having collaborated with the Nazi regime.

At the end of the 1960s, the company invested in new Boeing models, such as the Boeing 737. Its main hub is Frankfurt Airport. However, in order to declutter Frankfurt Airport, it is building a new terminal at Munich International Airport.

In May 2010, it received the first Airbus A380 which will connect during its first flight Frankfurt to Tokyo.

Children

Important information for air travel with children

Following a new European Union order, children must now have their own travel documents with photo. Passports on which children are added are no longer valid, regardless of the age of the children. We recommend that you apply for passports or identity cards for your children as soon as possible.

Sitting together – reservation of seats for the whole family

On a long-haul flight, it is particularly important that all members of the same family can be seated next to each other and that the children are seated in their preferred place, for example near the window or the toilet. We therefore recommend that you reserve your seats at the same time as you book your tickets. For Economy Class passengers, this chargeable service is available on all Lufthansa flights depending on the chosen fare/booking class.

If you have not reserved seats in advance, Lufthansa recommends that you use online or mobile check-in from 23 hours before departure in order to choose the seats of your choice at no extra charge. However, you have no guarantee that the seats you want are still available. You can book your seats on the website lh.com or directly at the airport.

Quick and easy check-in for the whole family

Thanks to online or mobile check-in, you can, from 23 hours before departure, easily choose your seats on board for the whole family, check in and print boarding passes or receive them directly on your mobile phone. . You save valuable time and arrive more relaxed at the airport, where all you have to do is drop off your luggage at the baggage drop-off counter, or at the Lufthansa automatic terminals in Frankfurt, Munich and Hamburg. For more information, see the section. Online check-in and family bag drop.

In stroller to the plane

You can bring your child’s stroller to the door of the plane, it is taken care of by the airport staff and will be returned to you upon landing. Families with children have priority to board the plane, which allows them to start their trip more serenely. Before checking in your baggage, please ask our ground staff if you can keep your stroller until boarding.

Bring a child safety system

To reinforce the passive safety of children under 7 on board, you can bring your own safety system (car seat or baby carrier, for example). The use of such a device is optional. Families being invited to board before other passengers will have the necessary time to quietly install and secure their child’s car seat.

Children’s menu – A funny pretzel in the shape of a face, delicious fresh pasta and gourmet desserts: fun, fresh, colorful, healthy and delicious, the new children’s menus served on board Lufthansa flights are a real treat for the palate and the eyes.

Cooking in color is the specialty of the very creative cook Sybille Schönberger. This lover of painting loves colors, which she declines both on the canvas and on her plates. A concept that not only appeals to children!

The inventive children’s menus created by Sybille Schönberger are now offered on board our flights. Of course, prepared from fresh produce and presented in a playful and colorful way, they are likely to make parents envious.

Lufthansa attaches particular importance to the quality of the menus served to young children on board, both in terms of taste, health and diversity.

Book a children’s menu

You can order children’s menus free of charge on all long-haul flights and certain flights within Europe as soon as you book your tickets.

Tasty children’s menus can be reserved later online up to 24 hours before departure. The officers of Lufthansa Service Center are at your disposal.

Special menus and baby food

If your children require special food for dietary, religious or nutritional reasons, you can place an order and choose from 17 different menus.

Food for babies or young children (bottles and small jars, knacks, soups) is available in limited quantities on board Lufthansa flights and does not need to be ordered when booking.

Requirements for checking in baggage at automatic baggage terminals

To be able to check in your baggage at an automatic terminal, you must already have a boarding pass. You must also have the necessary travel documents. If you are traveling with a excess baggage or special baggage, please go to a baggage check-in counter.

Baggage check-in at a baggage check-in counter

As soon as you have issued your boarding pass (online, mobile or via an automatic terminal), you can go directly to a baggage check-in counter.

You get back part of the baggage tag and this serves as proof of baggage check-in. This proof is necessary, in the event of non-return of the luggage, to establish a file for lost luggage. Please keep this part of the baggage tag until you collect your baggage at the destination.

Large baggage check-in

Surfboard, stroller, hiking backpack – some baggage must be checked in at the large baggage counter. At Frankfurt Airport, bulky baggage can be checked in at counter 445. At Munich Airport, the large baggage counter is located in Terminal 2, Level 04, near the counters 25 and 26.

To find out whether your baggage is considered bulky, contact the Lufthansa agents directly at the airport.

Reservation

To prepare your trip as well as possible, please inform us of your particular needs preferably when you make your reservation, and at the latest 48 hours before departure. After this period, we cannot guarantee the availability of the appropriate services.

As soon as you book, you can help us adapt our services to your needs, on the ground and during the flight. Indeed, to be able to ensure you the best conditions of comfort at the airport and on board, we need some information about you beforehand. If you book a ticket over the phone, please let us know your special requirements before the booking is complete.

At the airport

You should allow enough time to calmly get to the airport and check in. We recommend that you arrive at the airport 90 minutes before departure. This mainly applies to foreign airports that you do not yet know. It is advisable to inform yourself, before your departure, of the conditions in force from the return airport.

Please tell the check-in counter which special service you have ordered so that we can take care of you immediately and, if necessary, give you priority boarding. Although there is no obligation, please let us know the nature of your disability (e.g. reduced mobility, pacemaker, etc.).

Our services

The special services for passengers with reduced mobility provide in all cases for the transport of the passenger to and from the aircraft, as well as support during connections.
