Los Angeles, cinema and the famous Hollywood symbol. We’re all familiar with those letters on the mountain, but do you know the story behind them? When the building was built in 1923, the letters HOLLYWOOD had nothing to do with “cinema” or the neighborhood. They were intended for a real estate project, hence the name HOLLYWOODLAND. Initially, the letters were to remain in place for just one year, before being abandoned.
