New Zealand is located in the southwest of the Pacific Ocean. It is made up of 2 main islands: the North Island and the South Island. With only 4 million people, it is a very sparsely populated country. Its capital is Wellington, located in the far south of the North Island.
Located in the southern hemisphere about 1,600 km southeast of Australia, New Zealand is bathed by the waters of the Pacific Ocean (15,000 km of coastline). Its area is 268,676 km² with Kermadec and Chatham islands under its sovereignty. Cook and Niue are independent territories in free association with the country. Tokelau should soon be granted this same status.
