The Republic of Vanuatu is located in the South Pacific, approximately 1750 km from Australia, 500 km northeast of New Caledonia, west of Fiji and south of the Solomon Islands. During colonial times, it was called the New Hebrides. Vanuatu is 2.5 hours by plane from Brisbane and 3.5 hours from Sydney in Australia. And just over 2 hours from Auckland, New Zealand. There are regular flights from New Zealand, Australia, Honiara in the Solomons, Noumea and Fiji.
Vanuatu is an archipelago of 83 islands. The main cities are the capital Port-Vila on the island of Efate and Luganville on Espiritu Santo. The archipelago of Vanuatu, with its very varied landscapes, is one of the most interesting in Oceania. It is best known for its volcanoes. Almost all of the 83 islands have magnificent sandy beaches, surrounded by coral reefs. In addition, the hinterland is often home to a very rich fauna and flora, in the hearts of thick virgin forests that are still preserved. During the high season, all the major islands offer many leisure and water sports. Whether it’s a helicopter flight over a volcano crater or a sailboat crossing followed by deep-sea fishing in the Pacific. Divers will even be able to explore wrecks of ships sunk during the war and stranded along the coast. Many of these treasures are now in the cultural center in the capital.
